Lives Preserved in History
Engaging visual storytelling for all

Historical photographs and letters were rarely made to last. The Recorded Image Project preserves these fragile records, shaped by time, handling, and chance, so they can be studied, searched, and remembered. Together, they form a quiet visual history of ordinary lives and moments once overlooked.

While photography is at the heart of The Recorded Image Project, the archive extends beyond images alone. The collection also includes historical clothing, letters, jewelry, and personal artifacts that deepen the context of the photographs they accompany. Together, these objects help illuminate everyday life, personal identity, and material culture from the Victorian era through World War II, offering viewers a richer and more immersive connection to the past.

From the Carefully Curated Collection of Rachel Edler
Santa Rosa, CA

Welcome to The Recorded Image Project. I have been collecting antique photographs, clothing, jewelry and other items for years. I am so happy to share this collection with you. This curated collection is easily searchable. I have added all details that I can, from photographer, date, subject and place to any notes written on each piece. Search for a relative in San Francisco, or maybe ladies in hats, hairdoos, brooches, animals, etc.

I am currently adding translated antique documents from many different eras. Check back frequently for updates to the collection!

If you have comments, questions or would like to know more about a photograph, letter or object, please drop me a line! Cheers!

About the CatalogIt HUB
Collections that inspire curiosity

Explore the Stories Behind the Artifacts

The CatalogIt HUB is a growing digital showcase of museum and cultural collections from around the world. It brings together the work of institutions both large and small, including local museums, tribal archives, historical societies, and more. All of it is gathered into one place where their objects, stories, and exhibits can be shared with everyone.

Why It Matters

Too often, incredible collections remain hidden from public view simply because their stewards don’t have the resources to create robust public digital archives. CatalogIt HUB changes that. It gives every institution using CatalogIt a beautiful, searchable home for their collections—automatically updated, easy to navigate, and accessible to all.

What You’ll Discover

Wander through digital exhibits. Zoom in on rare artifacts. Follow themes that connect cultures and time periods. Every page you visit reflects the work of real people preserving history, telling stories, and opening their collections to the world. The HUB is where those stories live, and where new discoveries begin.

If you are part of an institution or a collection owner and you're interested in learning more about the CatalogIt collection management software, click here to visit our home page.
